The Arrival

AnaiRhoads.org - When was the last time you heard a mosquito, infected with either West Nile virus or Malaria, ask (whilst perched upon your arm), "Should I really do this?" Apparently debating the moral crisis: Should I save the life of my victim and just go hungry?
Mosquitoes don't have that sort of capacity for compassion. Does a Praying Mantis really give thanks for his dinner - which he is about to tear the head off of and devour? I don't think so.
Neither do the uppity mucks of the Republican party have any compassion or understanding regarding the fact that their actions will have disastrous results on the people, either of this county or another (or, usually, both), or the environment.
If you haven't seen _The Arrival_ with Charlie Sheen then I feel compelled to recommend it now. More about that in a moment.
My brother told me that there is a book out there which makes the case that the Bush family made a deal with the devil at the time of Christ and that they had been gradually transformed into reptiles in the subsequent two thousand years. The book apparently said that if you watch Bush or Rice or Rumsfeld closely on your T.V. then you can see their scales shimmer slightly. I seriously doubt that a reptile, like the Komodo Dragon, has any more compassion than a mosquito, a Praying Mantis, or a member of the Bush administration.
And now we have the arrival of a movie called" The Arrival. It would be wrong of me to tell you the premise of the movie, I suppose - I guess it would - I dunno…so I'm going to. Sheen discovers that a radio station (I think it was in Mexico) is communicating with a star system light years away. A giant beacon is flashing on and off towards the distant star. The science is bad, the acting is - well, it's Charlie Sheen, but the premise…the premise is, at once, insane and viable. Insects, like Bush, actually control all political events on our planet and are plotting for the ultimate take over. Gawd!…why does that sound so familiar?
What made me think about all of this on Election Night 2006? It's a bit of a story and here's how it starts:
Tulsa registered Demo-Timbre' Wolf, and Independent-Darrow, were turned away at the polls in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Having moved recently, the two had filled out the necessary paper work (for the election board) fourteen and twenty-one days ago respectively. The instructions on the form suggested taking a form of ID and a bill with name and address to the precinct voting location. Following these instructions they went to the voting location and were told that they had "misunderstood" the instructions. They were then advised to go vote at the Tulsa County Election Board facility in downtown Tulsa. Once there, they were instructed that they had "misunderstood" and would have to go vote were they were previously registered.
The two were unable to accommodate the bureaucracy because their previous registration was at a location which was a twenty minute drive away. The polls were closing in ten minutes.
They were told at the Election Board facility that compliance would have involved voting the week before the election.
That bit was submitted to the local paper. Now, I'm not really given to paranoia but was this so that they would have time to lose the votes? While "early voting" has plenty of merit it seems odd that VOTING ON ELECTION DAY would be forbidden for those present.
Now I'm sure that Election officials, and even many good citizens, would argue that we just didn't "follow instructions." But when it is impossible to comply with the instructions then you are victim of a Catch 22. Compliance is the only possibility...it is impossible to comply.
When I think about the fact that my bank can INSTANTLY deplete my checking account of hundreds of dollars, when I swipe my ATM card ANYWHERE in the world, then I have to ask, "Why in God's name can't my county election board process my papers in three weeks"?
It looks as though the demos will sweep this election. But then again, Gore won in 2000 - by a quarter of a million votes! If no one will challenge the bastards then THEIR rule is THE rule.
It's more than a little disturbing to me that Karl Rove campaigned against our own incumbent Governor (who has clearly earned his re-election). I drove a hundred miles, with my band, to protest Rove's appearance in our state. So…while I was proactive in the race, I was not able to vote in this election. Will Rove be able to steal this Gubernatorial election?
I thought you had to be a criminal to be refused voting privileges…I had no idea that you only had to move a few miles down the street.
I do need to bash on the opposition to the Republican steam roller for a moment. I got two highly valuable pieces of email regarding this election from those concerned about the outcome of this election. One was a list of phone numbers to call in the event of irregularities in the voting experience. The other was from a watchdog group with methods for challenging unscrupulous activity at the ballot box. But I got the first piece just hours before the election (no time to pass it on) and the other DURING the election. Excuse me while I experience a momentary lapse into Ebonics: Howdahell you gonna be fly with DAT kinda plan?
When I got home I noticed a very bright beacon emanating from downtown - in the general vicinity of the Election Board office - no joke.
Hmm. Watch _The Arrival_.
