Testing with 10 mIU/mL HPTs

Dear Anai,

I tested with a home pregnancy test (HPT) at 6 days post-ovulation (DPO) and saw a faint line. A few days later, I went to the doctor. He tested me with a 25 mIU/mL test and it was negative, why?

Thank you,

Steph,

Steph,

I don't know where you found a 10 mIU/mL urine test for home use, but the FDA in US has yet to approve of one below 25 mIU/mL on the market. If you purchased the test in America, and the claim is 10 mIU/mL, then they are untruthful.

Aimstep and Aimstick (hospital and laboratory tests) are 20 mIU/mL - not sold in stores. It is the strongest brand you can get in America.

Pregnancy is also not valid if the hCG level is under 20 mIU/mL with regards to blood tests. Doctors require a second blood draw to see if the levels have risen to acknowledge or deny the possibility of a pregnancy.

Your levels are not high enough to consider a pregnancy unfortunately. You will need to get a beta hCG blood test to examine your levels further.

See your doctor for a blood test.

Thank you for writing,

Anai Rhoads
