AnaiRhoads.org - Two activists were fined Wednesday for throwing condoms at England Prime Minister Tony Blair. The condoms, filled with an unidentified purple powdery substance, struck Blair on the back as he was conducting his weekly address in the House of Commons.
The incident was broadcasted live on television. A powder-filled condom landed between Blair and Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown, as the other condoms reached Blair.
Blair was said to have been caught off-guard by the 19 May attack, but not harmed in any way. However, the Commons had to be evacuated as the powder was quickly investigated.
The grassroots organisation, Fathers4Justice, is said to be responsible for the incident.
36 year-old Guy Harrison pleaded non-guilty but was ordered to pay a fine of $1,090 (900 EU), with an additional 55 pounds in legal fees. His accomplice, 48 year-old Patrick Ronald Davis pleaded not-guilty.
"By your actions, you deliberately disrupted parliament and in the present climate, caused considerable alarm and anxiety to many people. I consider you fortunate not to have been charged with a more serious offence," Judge Timothy Workman told Harrison during his hearing.
Harrison said he has no regrets. He told the press he did it to prove that it is easier to hit the Prime Minister of England with condoms than it is for a father to see his children. Harrison had been battling his ex-wife for visitation rights for quite some time.
