Kahlil Gibran Awards Honours Arabs

AnaiRhoads.org - The sixth annual Kahlil Gibran Spirit of Humanity Awards will honour Rock the Vote, Queen Noor, Mary Louise Parker, Rep. Nick Rahall and Suheir Hammad on 04 May 2004.
The award, named after the Arab-American poet Kahlil Gibran and which is hosted by the Arab American Institute Foundation, recognises individuals, corporations and organisations that have demonstrated a commitment to humanitarian causes.
The American Near East Refugee Aid (ANERA) will be awarded for assisting hundreds of thousands of refugees throughout the West Bank, Gaza, Lebanon, and Jordan.
Muhammad Ali is also expected to receive an award for providing an estimated 232 million meals to the poor. Ali has worked tirelessly to bring awareness to world-wide poverty and hunger.
Dean Obeidallah and Maysoon Zayid are scheduled to bring comic-relief during the award show. This year's awards will be held at the Omni Shoreham in N.W. Washington, D.C.
