Back pains - Am I close to labour?

Dear Anai,

I am presently 33 weeks pregnant. I have bad lower back pains and my pelvic joints are very sore. I struggle to walk most of the time and I go to the bathroom every 5 minutes.

When I sleep at night I get this horrible pain near my groin and sometimes it lasts for too long. I think the baby might come soon. Is this possible?

Thank you,

Worried

Dear Worried,

The closer you get to your due date, the more you will menstrual type pains. This is your body preparing for eventual labour.

The cervix will open slowly as time wears on. Some women feel nothing, while others feel much as you described.

If there is something that concerns you with regards to pain or pressure, please see your doctor.

Seven more weeks to go! I bet you are very excited. Wishing you a happy and healthy delivery!

Thank you for writing,
