"If a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich." -- John F. Kennedy

End Hunger and Poverty

Thirty-three weeks along and cramping

Dear Anai,

I have experienced pre-term labour (38 weeks) before and am now faced with cramps and similar feelings. Does this mean I will go into an early labour again? I am 33 weeks currently.

Thank you,

Alex's Mom

Dear Alex's Mom,

At 33 (plus) weeks, these symptoms are not uncommon. Since you are not bleeding, have not lost your mucous plug or seen a "gush" of water, and since you have shown no signs of thinning or dialation - you can expect feeling similar to contraction (cramping, lower back pain) off and on until actual labour begins.

If you do experience any of the symptoms above, call your doctor for a review of your cervix. Of course, if you experience the above around your due date you can expect a baby soon! Otherwise, call your doctor right away incase the baby's lungs are unprepared for delivery at this time.

You are in the homestretch! Wishing you a safe and easy labour and delivery ahead.

Thank you for writing,

Anai Rhoads
