Australia Announce Male Contraceptive

by Anai Rhoads

Researchers of the ANZAC Institute in Sydney and Prince Henry Institute in Melbourne, Australia, announced a breakthrough in men's contraception this week.

The hormone-based pregnancy prevention method was tested on fifty-five couples over a twelve month period. The results came in without any reported pregnancies among the particpants.

The application worked via insertion of testosterone "pellets" under the skin of the abdomen on a quarterly basis, along with shots of the hormone typically found in the Pill, Progestin Previous polls in America and abroad speculated if men would keep up a regimine for preventing pregnancy if the method was complicated or set on a daily schedule.

It is not known when the male contraception product will be on the market, but it is clear that it has great potential as a reliable method of birth control for men. It is not certain if there are any long-term side effects associated with this combination of hormones as well. Much remains to be seen, but couples everywhere are excited at the prospect of a new method.
